UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Circa mid to late 5th century. Solidus (Gold, 22 mm, 4.44 g, 6 h), imitating Valentinian III, 425-455. Uncertain mint, perhaps in southern Gaul. D N PLΛ VΛLENTI-NIΛNVS P F ΛVG Laurel-and-rosette-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Valentinian III to right. Rev. VICTORI-Λ ΛVGGG / R - W / COИOB Valentinian III standing facing, holding long cross in his right hand and Victory on globe in his left and placing his right foot on human-headed serpent below. Cf. RIC X 2014 (for prototype). A beautiful coin of very attractive style. Minor edge crack, otherwise, extremely fine.
